Goldpine opts for Infinity POS software

Triquestra’s ability to customise software to work in a challenging environment helped outdoor timber specialist Goldpine select Infinity POS software.

Goldpine has replaced its legacy DOS-based Nimbus system across 21 branches servicing 50 lanes with Infinity software integrated with Microsoft’s Great Plains ERP software.

Goldpine IT Manager Simon Gutschlag said Triquestra’s willingness and ability to customise a POS to operate in the challenging environment posed by Goldpine’s retail outlets was a critical factor in opting for Infinity.

Gutschlag said he wanted a POS device without moving parts, which meant no computers. “Selling wood products means our yards are dusty and PCs can suffer. Fans get full of dust, we’ve had hard drives go, CD–ROM drives break and processors go down.”

Triquestra customised Infinity so it could be embedded in ROM memory stick, which plugs into a Galiv ROM-based touch screen terminal. “Each store has only one slimline computer locked in a cabinet away from the dust.”

Hardware costs are reduced, and support and maintenance are simplified. “If things go wrong, you can switch out the memory stick easily and it not a big cost if one of them breaks down.”

Triquestra also customised Infinity to support IP printing providing each printer with its own IP address, which makes managing the network simpler. “Each printer is an independent network element which makes support and maintenance easier.”

Infinity’s architecture was another critical factor in choosing Infinity, Gutschlag said.

“Infinity has three tiers – Head Office, Back Office and POS creating. Unlike POS system that rely on a sever client relationships, each of Infinity’s tiers can retain sales information during network outages, seamlessly downloading data when the network is restored.”

Triquestra’s Infinity POS software is used by a number of leading New Zealand and international retailers including Pumpkin Patch, Whitcoulls, Telecom and Lighting Direct.
