Power your retail innovation strategy with APIs

This blog was originally published on 28 February 2020 and updated 18 April 2023.

Retailers are urgently innovating to create the seamless and personalised omnichannel experiences consumers now expect. They are looking for new ways to make use of their data and connect their systems together to streamline business processes and create great customer experiences. One major advantage of using a unified commerce is that its open architecture that lets you easily make those connections with APIs.

APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are present in every part of our digital world. Every time you use an app like LinkedIn, make a Skype call or listen to Spotify on your phone, there’s an API in action.

APIs let you add specialised functionality to a website, application, platform or software without having to write all of the back-end code. By using APIs, you can expose data in real time, rather than having to replicate or move it. The result is a set of functions that’s available across various systems, plus a fast and easy way to plug in and deploy new services, channels and devices.

These improvements let you shift your team’s priority from maintenance to innovation.

By using APIs to access existing solutions in the market, you are free to focus your development efforts on the front-end. You can be be more agile and create a community of third-party apps and systems that work together in an ecosystem. As a result, you’ll reduce integration and maintenance overheads, increase real-time accuracy and enjoy virtually limitless scalability and agility.

APIs in action

Here are just some of the ways APIs help you optimise operations, personalise customer experiences and drive new revenue:

icon-industries-franchises-60px.png

Retail anywhere, any time

APIs let you easily expose your product catalogues and other eCommerce solutions to give customers many more ways to engage with your brand, including social commerce.

icon-infinity-store-to-door-delivery-60px.png

Deliver anywhere, any how

Consumers now make purchasing decisions based on shipping costs and timings. APIs can power the fulfilment options they now expect - such as click-and-collect, store-to-door, scheduled delivery and even 1-hour delivery.

icon-coloured-wired-customise-atoe-60px.png

Payment convenience counts

APIs give consumers the payment options and ‘buy-now, pay later’ services they want, both in-store and online. Infinity was the first retail system in the world to integrate with Afterpay at point of sale and supports Adyen, Smartpay, Laybuy, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Slyp and Zip to name just a few payment partners.

icon-infinity-support-60px.png

Personalised communications

APIs let you connect internal and external data to create timely and relevant communications, recommendations, offers and rewards. You can provide customers with real-time shipping visibility and tracking throughout the shipping journey, no matter the fulfilment solution. APIs let you create customised recommendations for customers visiting stores during click-and-collect pickups, and extend them into other communications, such as e-receipts and shipping notifications.

And they help to create personalised marketing experiences that boost loyalty and increase conversions - such as notifications for items on sale, low-in-stock or restocked – plus product recommendations on the website, based on each customer’s behaviour and past data.

Virtual Shopping

APIs support virtual retail shopping ecosystems that go beyond live chat to support in-store experiences on digital channels. By integrating video commerce platforms with POS solutions (like Infinity), you can automate the end-to-end process, from customer communications and data insights to seamless sales transactions and fast delivery.

Extending digital into stores

APIs also improve the in-store shopping experience. You can give your in-store teams’ data on customer histories and shopping preferences, as well as personalised recommendations based on past purchases and wishlists. APIs can help provide product recommendations for customers visiting stores for click-and-collect pickups, answer product questions in real-time and support self-checkout. In addition, new multichannel wishlists let customers add items to their wishlists while browsing in stores

So how do you start making the most of APIs?

Begin by evaluating your company’s value chain. Can you easily integrate and use APIs to access third-party platforms and services to scale your business? Or can you release your own APIs to attract partners and build out your platform? The two options are not mutually exclusive.

An API-enabled platform like Infinity lets you scale your business quickly by easily adding new apps and services as business requirements change.

We can also help if you’re looking for advice on how to create a strategy and implement an API programme that quickly creates customer and business value.

The end result is the ability to create extraordinary customer experiences that help to capture market opportunities, generate additional revenue and build brand advocacy.

New in Infinity – March 2023

Here’s new functionality across the Infinity platform that will help you unify physical and digital channels to create the seamless omnichannel experiences customers now expect.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

PRODUCT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Extend control over store-specific data

You can now prevent a range of Infinity data from linking down from the Head Office to branches, including customer records, print layouts, POS buttons and drilldowns. This feature gives your stores greater control over the data that is specific to them and ensures that it won’t be accidently overwritten by Head Office staff.

INVENTORY

More control over nominated suppliers

You can now restrict your staff from manually ordering from nominated suppliers, thereby preventing purchase orders from being created against internal suppliers or staff inadvertently ordering from nominated external suppliers.

Increase efficiency with automated stock replenishment requests

Replenishment requests can now be automated centrally at the Head Office for stores based on minimum levels set for stock items. When stock is running low, it is ordered automatically, thereby reducing the store overhead involved in manually monitoring stock levels and requesting additional goods.

Increase visibility of non-freight item costs

The Freight field that is used when receipting and invoice matching has been re-labelled FRT/Extra, making for a more intuitive experience when matching non-freight item costs, such as customs fees, to purchase orders.

ORDER MANAGEMENT

Better visibility of quotes and order data

Quotes and orders layouts have been enhanced in several ways:

  • Branches’ GST details are now included on orders and quotes.

  • The GST number on the quote removes human error from the process and maintains accurate information through the sale conversion process from quote, order and to sale.

  • The addition of customer emails to quotes helps store staff follow up with customers when seeking to convert quotes into orders.

  • Discount breakdowns allow customers to see discounts clearly compared to base price on quotes, while the subtotal breakdown allows B2B customers to easily see the tax component and tax exclusive total of a quote or order.

CUSTOMERS & LOYALTY

Give customers more visibility of loyalty discounts

Fuel retail customers can now see their cent-per-litre loyalty discount total broken down as line items. For example, they will be able to see their SuperGold discount calculated as part of the total discount, giving them confidence they have maximised their fuel savings.

REPORTS & ANALYTICS

Easier access to current store promotions and prices

A new report allows you to view products, the rules-based pricing promotions that are in play, and the prices before and after tax. This can be useful when you need to verify that current signage matches the price loaded in Infinity or if you want to generate a list of current prices for ad hoc price checks.

Improve analysis of waived payments

The Product Sales Summary Report now includes $0 transactions, meaning you can see transactions where no payment was taken from the customer. This is useful in cases where an item has been processed but a fee, or other associated payment, has been waived.

Better visibility of cash adjustments

The Safe Balance Adjustment Report now show the reasons for safe adjustments that have been made, allowing you to review activities related to cash-up, bank reconciliation and accounting.

POINT OF SALE

Help store teams deliver more personalised CX

You can now add customised information relevant to your business to the Customer Details screen at the Point of Sale, such as external loyalty memberships, favourite store, or product preferences. Your store staff can then use this information to upsell or otherwise personalise the customer experience.

Increase visibility of planned stock orders

You can now give your store staff visibility of draft purchase orders, allowing them to see the quantities of stock that are contained in draft orders. Note that this should be used carefully where drafts are still under review and are subject to change.

Integrate Hikvision’s video security system

Infinity can now be integrated with Hikvision for recording POS activity in real time. Data input from a range of functions performed by your store staff is merged with video footage, giving you oversight of sensitive transactions. Customers wanting to take advantage of this integration should be aware that some support from Hikvision will be required to make it fully functional.

ADMINISTRATION

Automate trading day reports at unmanned fuel sites

Fuel retailers who run unmanned sites with outdoor payment terminals can now automatically create and complete trading days once all the terminals have settled. This frees site managers from manually creating the trading day to see Infinity reporting on site performance.

Increase control over staff passwords

You can now limit the ability to force password changes to staff members with the same or lower access levels. This is useful if you want to limit password changes to supervisors and their direct reports.

TECHNOLOGY

Stay current with latest Microsoft technologies

Infinity is now certified to work with Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.

Four ways to revamp the fuel customer experience

This post was originally published on 12 May 2021 and updated on 22 February 2023

As consumer demand for convenience, speed, variety and affordability rises, the convenience store format needs to transform. Kelly Brown describes four areas to focus on to modernise the c-store CX.

With demand for traditional fuel expected to plateau around 2030, fuel retailers are urgently innovating to replace shrinking revenues and dwindling profits.

The leaders have quickly moved to improve and expand their traditional products and services and launch in new, but related, market segments. They recognise that the future business of fuel will be less vehicle-centric and more focussed on the customer. They’ve developed a customer-centric mindset and are building new skills and capabilities to compete with unfamiliar competitors.

monochrome-customer-satisfaction.png

We’ve seen some impressive transformations. The retailers making the first move are creating differentiated experiences for competitive advantage and forming strong customer relationships that are driving up conversions and profits.

It’s an immense undertaking.

While fuel retail has always been challenging – very fast service is non-negotiable, transaction volumes are high and operations typically run 24x7 – this requires a fundamental transformation of the standard business model.

And customer expectations have never been higher. Today’s consumers expect brands to deliver fast and frictionless experiences through compelling interactions across all physical and digital touchpoints.

Building customer loyalty requires a complex mix of emotional and rational factors that enable you to connect and build relationships with customers across all your channels and communications.

So where should you focus?

Here are four areas to explore:

1. Enhance the purchasing experience

Create a seamless experience across the end-to-end ordering and purchase journey, with personalised offers and incentives to encourage store visits, and fast point of sale transactions on the forecourt and in stores.

monochrome-fuel-scanning.png
  • A mobile app will let your customers pay for fuel without leaving their vehicles. Don’t restrict it to payments - use the app to help customers find their nearest service station, view their purchase history, accumulated loyalty points, discounts and rewards, or pre-order coffee, convenience items or a carwash.

  • By identifying customer pain-points and aggressively embracing innovation, Z Energy has delivered a world-first in fuel retail with the launch of its virtual fuel tank called Sharetank.

2. Create a Convenience Hub

The convenience store format is ready for change. Consumers are cutting back on big weekly supermarket shopping trips and choosing to purchase more of their groceries at easily accessible local stores.

  • Become a neighbourhood hub by expanding beyond traditional c-store offerings into high-quality products and fresh food, and design places customers want to visit, rather than need to visit.

  • In highway locations, encourage customers to stay as long as they want, with fresh in-store and takeaway food, and rest areas for travellers.

  • Consider the un-manned store model, which reduces costs while offering customers a quick, digital experience.

3. Offer ordering and pickup

monochrome-customer-rewards.png

With the surge in ecommerce over recent years, consumers want new options for purchasing, payment and fulfilment.

  • Boost sales and profits by letting customers place and pay for their order in advance using your mobile app. When they reach the store, all they need to do is pick up the order and go. Some fuel apps let customers order items while they fill up, and an attendant delivers them to their vehicles.

  • New self-serve software offers a simple yet sophisticated solution to meet customer demands for speed and convenience via digital experiences.

  • Draw online shoppers into stores by offering omnichannel services such as click-and-collect.

  • Home delivery apps let your stores drive sales and engage with new customers, while continuing to encourage their local communities to shop in store.

4. React smarter and faster to demand changes

Make better decisions about product assortments, by matching breadth and depth to demand, trends and local demographics.

  •  A unified view of inventory will give you total control over your wet and dry stock to improve efficiency, reduce overall stock, create more satisfied customers and boost the bottom line.

  • Maximise profits, conversions and promotional impact by customising products, prices and promotions nationally, regionally and even by individual sites.

  • Offer a range of discounts to appeal to different shoppers, including dollars off the price, cost per litre, percentage off the price, cost plus a specific margin or markup and more.

Why unified commerce is the nirvana of omnichannel

This post was originally published on 3 March 2020 and updated on 2 February 2023

We’ve seen a dramatic boom in ecommerce in recent years that is creating new online shopping habits and reshaping consumers’ expectations of the retail experience.

Many retailers have had to take a ‘just get something done’ approach to creating seamless customer experiences that span channels. Now they’re struggling with omnichannel set-ups that simply link digital and physical systems together, and they don’t have the ability to keep pace with changing consumer behaviours.

But omnichannel should not be the end goal. It’s just one approach to getting a single view of your customers that will help you deliver unified experiences.

Instead, a unified commerce platform will break down your channel silos and move your retail business toward the holy grail of holistic, real-time, personalised customer experiences spanning in-store, online and everywhere in between.

To help explain why unified commerce is the nirvana of omnichannel, here’s a look at where we are now and where we’re going.

Infinity-Omnichannel-versus-Unified-Commerce.jpg

Multi-channel

To keep pace with new technologies and changing consumer demands, retailers are giving customers access to new mobile and online channels. Each touchpoint and channel operates independently, with separate people, processes and technologies existing in functional silos.

But when you only add and don’t actually integrate new channels with the rest of your organisation, you create bad service experiences that frustrate internal teams and customers.

Silos mean that your customers have to deal with inconsistencies and gaps, such as incomplete sales histories, different tones of voice or having to start conversations afresh in each channel. These silos inevitably lead to disappointment and frustration, a lack of trust and even a sense that your organisation is incompetent.

Omnichannel

Infinity-omniichannel.jpg

With an omnichannel approach, you’re connecting numerous backend systems so that customers can seamlessly interact with your brand. However, your channels are still operating in functional silos.

That means most attempts to offer unified experiences fall short.

You’re likely to be struggling with legacy technologies that have been customised and are infrequently updated, and then you bolt-on new solutions that don’t easily integrate. These omnichannel systems are fragile, inefficient and costly to maintain.

And things can easily unravel. Adding new channels and tools requires additional custom integrations that are complex and slow, adding significant costs and curbing the agility and scalability you require.

Unified commerce

Infinity-unified-commerce.jpg

With a unified commerce approach, you can achieve retail nirvana by creating immersive and frictionless experiences for customers across all channels, touchpoints and locations. Rather than building custom integrations to unify different systems, you can easily use all the tools and services within a single unified platform.

It gives you a single source of truth for inventory, order and customer data. With this one view of the customer, and all channels and engagement points connected in real-time, you can deliver a personalised and consistent customer experience.

You can also quickly respond to changing customer expectations and new technologies by using microservices and APIs to expose data and connect third-party services.

Unified commerce has been a game changer for our clients.

It eliminates the customer journey pain points and amplifies the ‘wow’ moments. Now you can treat each customer as an individual, all the time – one person with one account, interacting with one brand.

Unified commerce can benefit your business in many ways:

  • It provides a stable backbone by acting as the hub for all your channels, reducing integration and operating costs, while increasing efficiency and accuracy.

  • It gives you total control over all your inventory and lets you create seamless and personalised purchasing, payment and fulfilment options across ‘endless aisle’ shopping, fast (eg 30-minute) click-and-collect, kerbside pickup, store-to-door, shoppable screens, kiosks and hyper-personalised loyalty offers.

  • You can deliver frictionless experiences and let customers access your entire product range from any location, including stores, online, mobile, shoppable screens, pop-ups, stores within stores, virtual showrooms, social channels, call centres and more.

  • And our savviest clients are now investing in new customer-facing technologies, like chatbots, mobile apps and AI. Some are pioneering contextual commerce – the ability to seamlessly implement purchase opportunities into everyday activities (such as Shoppable Instagram and Facebook).

The end result is the ability to deliver the personal, ubiquitous and unified experiences your customers expect, fostering loyalty, driving growth and improving profitability.

New in Infinity – November 2022

Here’s new functionality across the Infinity platform that will help you create the convenient and seamless omnichannel experiences your customers now expect.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY API

Extend access to New Zealand addresses

Infinity’s integration with the Addressify address validation service now supports New Zealand addresses. Using Addressify prevents customers from providing inaccurate or incomplete address details, giving you the confidence that loyalty customers and online and store orders are linked to the correct customer address. To use this feature, you’ll need a service agreement with Addressify (details of their New Zealand service are launching soon).

PRODUCT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Faster access to product profitability data

Searching for stock items has been enhanced by allowing you to filter by gross profit percentage. Using this filter, you can quickly identify items that are falling below target and adjust prices accordingly.

CUSTOMERS & LOYALTY

Expand your collection of customer data

Your store and head office staff can now add a small piece of customised free text to each loyalty customer’s account, allowing you to capture customer data that fits your business needs and giving you greater control over the information you collect. For example, if a customer is a registered company, you can use this field to store the company’s ABN/GST number.

Give customers more visibility of manual discounts

Customers can now see the details of manual fuel related discounts that have been applied to transactions on the printed receipt. This removes confusion about the type and amount of the discount that the customer has received.

Launch new fuel promotions for non-loyalty members

Fuel retailers can now offer dollar-off fuel coupons for non-loyalty customers (in addition to existing cents-per-litre coupons). This gives marketers another tool to incentivise customers to shop with them, increasing customer retention and boosting sales. This feature uses the Infinity API.

REPORTS & ANALYTICS

Easier access to epay and Flybuys refund data

Infinity has been enhanced to report on refunds of epay items and Flybuys sales, helping you to identify these transactions more easily to mitigate potential fraud.

Improve cash adjustment reporting

Your POS users with the required permissions can now record meaningful reasons against safe balance adjustments, allowing for more efficient reporting and decreasing the time needed to investigate cash discrepancies.

TECHNOLOGY

Stay current with latest Microsoft database

Fresh installs of Infinity now ship with SQL 2019, giving you the latest database engine available from Microsoft by default. Upgrades are not impacted. Note that if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, SQL 2019 cannot be installed. You will need to use SQL 2014 which has been previously shipped with Infinity.

Improve SQL Server performance

Customers who have a suitably configured and licensed read-only SQL node in an Availability Group can now direct reports to a read-only node to distribute SQL workloads and deliver faster reporting.

Faster Infinity installs

Unattended installations of Infinity can now be completed more quickly, following the implementation of a bulk copy function when setting up new Infinity workstations.

New in Infinity – August 2022

Here’s new functionality across the Infinity platform that will help you unify your physical and digital channels to create new omnichannel customer experiences and drive growth.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY API

Extend access to inventory data

Infinity APIs now have near real-time support for additional inventory-related transactions for integration with third-party systems, such as ERP, warehousing and order management software. This allows you to perform a range of vital inventory business processes, including stock adjustments and allocations, receipting stock from purchase orders and receipting stock from a transfer. Stock transfers can also be posted to Infinity from third-party systems, such as warehousing systems.

INVENTORY

Easier status changes for bulk PO imports

You can now bulk import purchase orders into Infinity with their status set to ‘complete’ using Infinity ETL. Completed purchase orders retain their external references if the references are included in the import, so that they can be used during receipting. This feature saves time and reduces operational complexity, particularly for businesses that sell high volumes of products.

PRICING & PROMOTIONS

Launch new fuel promotions for non-loyalty members

Infinity Loyalty now gives you the ability to create promotional fuel discount coupons which can be offered to non-loyalty customers. This allows fuel retailers to incentivise new customer segments to shop with them, helping to boost repeat customers and increase sales.

CUSTOMERS & LOYALTY

Faster collection of loyalty points

Infinity gives retailers the ability to issue loyalty points on spend without the need for double entry into an external secondary system. The loyalty card number is captured and discounts are redeemed using a barcode identified at the point of sale. Previously, this service was limited to customers who held Goody cards, but it has now been extended to other secondary loyalty providers as well.

REPORTS & ANALYTICS

Give stores better product performance data

The Customer Performance, Supplier Performance, Product Performance and Employee Performance reports can now be filtered by custom fields that have been added to an item record. A store manager can use this feature to focus on the performance of products according to criteria stored in these fields relevant to their business. For example, stores can search product environmental star ratings and report on star ratings 3, 4 or 5, while filtering out results for ratings 1 and 2.

Better readability of data exported into Excel

Data exported out of Infinity into a spreadsheet is now easier to read and use in your business with the inclusion of column headers. This enhancement applies to all exportable data, including items.

POINT OF SALE

Seamless integration with Latitude financing to boost sales

Your customers can now take advantage of Latitude’s interest free financing at the point of sale without the need to fill in paper forms or go through an online portal. Infinity’s new integration allows you to seamlessly offer financing to Latitude account holders, broadening customers’ purchasing options and reducing the friction that can come with financing transactions. This new integration extends to Latitude’s Gem Finance operation in New Zealand.

TECHNOLOGY

Stay current with .NET 6.0

Infinity APIs and supporting components now use .NET 6.0, the latest general release of the .NET framework from Microsoft. This follows the end of Microsoft’s long-term support for .NET core 3.1 on 13 December this year. Triquestra is committed to ensuring the APIs run on supported .NET platforms, with 6.0 long-term support due to run until the 12 November 2024.

Customers do not have to update all APIs at once to .NET 6.0 versions, as we will still support current versions and mixed operation of both .NET 3.1 and .NET 6.0 APIs. However, APIs which deliver new features or fixes as part of your standard API release will require .NET 6.0 to function.

New in Infinity – June 2022

Here’s new functionality across the Infinity platform that will help you unify your physical and digital channels, create a differentiated omnichannel experience, and let your teams work more efficiently.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY API

Access real-time fuel inventory

Fuel retailers can now get a near real-time view of fuel inventory levels at branches, helping to simplify their stock management. Fuel tank dip values and inventory levels can now be regularly posted as an event notification for processing by external downstream systems, such as fuel delivery management software.

PRODUCT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Easier updates to item costs

If your business uses Infinity’s inventory review function to manage price updates at branches, you can now update an item’s recommended cost at the branch when that item’s unit cost is updated at head office, saving you the time and effort of changing the cost manually. If you use Infinity ETL to bulk update item data, you also now have the option to update the recommended cost of an item for a specific branch or for all branches.

PRICING & PROMOTIONS

Launch new fuel promotions

Fuel retailers can now offer dollar-off fuel coupons with each fuel transaction, giving marketers another tool to incentivise customers to shop with them, and helping to increase customer retention and boost sales. It allows them to reach a different customer segment, with different purchase motivators.

REPORTS & ANALYTICS

Give stores access to sales data at-a-glance

You can now give your stores easy access to stripped-down sales information using the new Product Sales Summary Report. This report includes the number of individual items sold and total value, minus information you might want to exclude (such as costs or margins).

Better cash management reporting for branch managers

The Banking Transaction Report is now available at the Back Office, allowing branch managers to view the movement of money into and out of the trading location.

By viewing their banking deposits and receipt transactions, they can more easily reconcile bank statements or review cashflow within their store.

POINT OF SALE

Faster item data updates via Wedderburn scales integration

Infinity is now fully integrated with Wedderburn scales. This means that changes to item data in Infinity, such as price per kg, can be pushed directly to Wedderburn, rather than users having to update the prices again independently on the scales.

TECHNOLOGY

SQL Server Always On Availability Group

If your Head Office database is set up in an Always On Availability Group (AOAG) with appropriate read-only access, you can offload some Linker load to the read-only node to distribute the SQL activity for the Linker, thereby reducing the load on the primary SQL node. Note: At present, only one high-use query uses this feature.

New in Infinity – February 2022

Here are the latest enhancements added to the Infinity platform to help you and your team work more efficiently and create fast, omnichannel experiences your customers expect.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY API

Incentivise loyalty members to buy

A new API lets your online customers see potential loyalty points earned on items, giving them an additional incentive to make a purchase.

Easier retrieval and display of alternate prices

The Products API now allows you to retrieve an item’s standard selling price and alternate selling price, per store. This is useful if you want to display information such as ‘was/now prices’ on your ecommerce portal or any other system that consumes the Infinity APIs.

Give customers real-time RRP prices

The new Product Price List API enables you to display comprehensive, accurate RRP prices to customers by retrieving from Infinity a real-time view of a full price list for one item in all branches, all items in all branches or a combination of both.

Easier access and display of custom data on debtors

The Accounts Receivable API now enables you to retrieve, manage and create business-specific information about your debtors that is contained in custom fields. You can use this custom data for either display or functional purposes within your system.

Retrieve and identify more pricing information

The Products API now includes more pricing data in responses, so you can retrieve and identify more pricing and unit information relating to products.

ORDER MANAGEMENT

Improve mobile user experience when creating purchase orders

Staff creating purchase orders on a mobile device can now receive additional notifications when finalising the order to help minimise potential errors, saving your business time and admin costs.

CUSTOMERS & LOYALTY

Easier access to loyalty point movements for marketing

You can now access information on loyalty points earned or consumed on sales transactions, offering additional marketing communications triggers and data analytics around loyalty point movements.

Give customers and staff access to historical loyalty balance transfers

You can now see where a customer’s loyalty balance was transferred from or to in their transaction history, helping customers understand how their balance has been consumed and making it easier for your support office to understand historical transactions when resolving issues.

Faster retrieval of refund transaction details

Line description details for refund transactions are now included on debtor statements, letting you quickly and easily see which items were refunded.

Easier access to product refund or replacement details

The Sales and Credits function has been enhanced with additional fields to give you more options when searching for customer transactions. This interactive function lets you search for historical transactions and can help resolve post-sale queries such as determining whether a product is eligible for a refund or replacement.

REPORTS & ANALYTICS

Increase visibility of stock value at each location

The Item Location Report has been enhanced with additional information to allow you to understand the dollar value of goods at each location, giving your finance team greater visibility over your stock.

POINT OF SALE

Remove the risk of illegal age-restricted sales transactions

You can now configure Infinity so that age-restricted items can only be sold by store staff above a certain age, protecting your business from the risk of illegal transactions.

Faster access to ePay gift card details

ePay gift cards can now be swiped through Vault EFTPOS terminals, giving your store staff a quick alternative to scanning or manually entering the card number when selling a gift card or checking a gift card’s balance.

TECHNOLOGY

Reduce the time to install new back-office and PoS terminals

The Infinity setup process now allows for bulk copying of certain tables when building a branch linked to the Head Office. This will reduce the amount of time it takes to perform the first linking cycle after Infinity has been installed on a new machine in businesses that have a large amount of data in those tables.

New in Infinity – November 2021

Check out the latest enhancements across the Infinity platform designed to help you and your team work more efficiently and create the fast, frictionless experiences customers expect.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY APIs

Easily validate customer addresses

Infinity is now integrated with the Addressify and NZ Post address validation services. This prevents customers from providing inaccurate or incomplete address details, giving you the confidence that web and store orders are linked to the correct customer address. It includes validation of addresses for loyalty customers, orders and quotes, and customers stored in Infinity Loyalty. To use this feature, you’ll need a service agreement with Addressify and/or NZ Post.

Increase efficiency when receipting multiple POs

A new API allows your external suppliers to create a group of purchase orders (or purchase order lines) to make it easier for you to receipt multiple purchase orders at once. Suppliers can generate an Advanced Shipment Notice to provide information about the items included, and their related purchase order lines, so you can be prepared to check and accept delivery.

INVENTORY

Increase accuracy of inter-branch stock transfers

Your stores can use the new Inter-branch Transfers Report to check for any variances between stock sent to them from another store and the stock that arrives. The report helps reduce inventory leakage between branches and force better stock management practices. It’s particularly useful for retailers who sell high-value items that are routinely transferred between branches. Stores will only see stock movements to or from their own branch.

Simplify stock receipting

You can now configure Infinity so that whole numbers (1,2,3) rather than decimals (1.00, 2.4) must be used in stock receipting. This simplifies stock receipting if you only use whole numbers in stock management and reduces the opportunity for time-wasting errors and confusion.

Comply with AGDC data requirements

North American cigarette retailers can now use Infinity to meet AGDC (Altria Group Distribution Company) scan data requirements. You can report sales to tobacco companies directly, and then receive reimbursement from them, using an automated process that identifies eligible sales transactions and generates weekly reports in a AGDC compliant format.

ORDER MANAGEMENT

Full visibility of orders

The Click and Collect Dashboard has been renamed the Orders Orchestration Dashboard to better reflect the wide range of customer order scenarios that it manages, including collection and delivery via store-to-door, drop shipping and click and collect.

Email customers order information

If you capture transaction data in the TH_FieldText fields, you can now include that data in the email that is sent to customers with their transaction receipt.  This allows you to include additional, business-specific information in the email that your customers receive.

REPORTS

Give fuel sites better AA Smartfuel loyalty reporting

Fuel stores have three new reports that enable them to see transactional details for the  AA Smartfuel program, more easily gauge how the program is performing and assess ways to improve its productivity. The reports include analysis of fuel discounts accumulated by customers, fuel discounts redeemed by customers and non-fuel product sales that qualified for shop-sponsored cents-per-litre discounts.

POINT OF SALE

Give your customers a single receipt

If your business uses PC EFTPOS NZ, you can now take advantage of the ability to only print one receipt, saving on paper and giving your customers the option to make a more sustainable shopping choice.

And if you want to go paperless and eliminate all paper receipts, Australian retailers can use Slyp Smart Receipts to send digital receipts direct to the customer’s banking app.

Let customers mix and match their loyalty accounts

Fuel retailers who use Infinity Loyalty to offer cents-per-litre discounts via an app can now allow their customers to group together loyalty accounts using the app and redeem saved cents-per-litre discounts from any of these accounts during a fuel purchase. This allows fuel customers who have multiple accounts amongst family members to mix and match how they use their accounts, reducing potential confusion about where their saved cents-per-litre discounts have gone.

Analyse historic foot traffic in stores

You can now record the foot traffic in your stores retrospectively, instead of just on the current day, giving your staff greater flexibility in record-keeping and providing a more comprehensive, reliable picture of the numbers of customers entering your stores. The foot traffic functionality is also now available in Restricted Back Office.

Allow customers to change their minds during refunds

Your store staff can now cancel out of a refund to Afterpay and Zip, giving customers the opportunity to reverse their decision and preventing unintentional refunds to these two payment methods.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Stock information can be shared throughout your solution infrastructure more readily and seamlessly. The Cloud Events Service now publishes notifications about purchase orders, goods receipts and goods receipt cancellations, in addition to sales invoices. That means external systems, such as ERPs, use near real-time stock management information from Infinity rather than having to use custom integrations, flat files or pulling information using API.

  • We’ve renewed Infinity’s certification with Quest Payment Systems in New Zealand, giving users of the Quest pinpad configured for use with Paymark the ability to integrate their EFTPOS solution with Infinity POS.

  • Infinity now allows you to proactively prevent accidental mass data updates which can impact the Linker performance and reduce the real-time accuracy of information. Additional protection on the AKPOS database triggers blocks if updates to more than 20,000 rows are attempted within a single update. Block triggers can be removed as well as added.

  • To help retailers improve their security compliance, Infinity Web Integration and Infinity Loyalty now support the ability to work with TLS 1.0 disabled. This enables businesses to disable the now obsolete TLS 1.0 protocol and reduce their security risk profile.

  • Infinity Quickfire has been modified so that you can now automate upgrades by performing a silent upgrade of Infinity ETL and the Infinity Cloud Events Service using the Command line.

  • The Infinity Gift Card API has been converted to a REST API for easier integration.

New in Infinity – August 2021

Here are the latest enhancements we’ve added to the Infinity platform to help you create the frictionless experiences your customers expect.

Infinity is a modular platform and you may need additional components or licencing to access some functionality.

INFINITY APIs

Extend product pricing options

The Products API now offers greater versatility when determining prices. Previously, users could select Price1 at the Head Office or an alternative (eg Price8) at a specific site. Now the API returns all prices set up from Head Office (when left blank) or all prices set up for a specific site (when the site code is supplied). So, for example, you can use Price8 at the Head Office to produce a single global price for a product.

Faster troubleshooting following database error

The Cloud Events Service now stops on a fatal error. Previously, it only logged an inability to connect to the database and when the maximum retries were exceeded it entered a state where the service was still running at the Windows level, but it wasn't doing any work. Now, if the service fails to connect to the database for more than the configured retries, the Windows service will stop, allowing OS level monitoring to raise alerts and perform recovery operations.

Easier sales to non-debtor customers

Using the Infinity pricing engine and pricing conditions to price a cart on a web store then pass the resulting sale to Infinity is now simpler when selling to non-accounts receivable customers for integrations that use Infinity APIs. Output from the Infinity Carts API can be used as input to the Invoices API with only a few additional pieces of data added. Previously some manipulation of the accounts receivable account code was required for non-debtor customers.

More control when retrieving price change records

The Product Price List API has been enhanced to allow a consumer of the API to retrieve recent price changes while also specifying the maximum number of records to return. This enables the consumer to control how many records to receive at once and tune application performance.

ORDER MANAGEMENT

Customer online orders now visible at POS

POS users can find and view online orders on the POS Sale screen. This offers a more seamless experience for both the customer and the POS operator, for whom there is no distinction between an order the customer made online and an order placed at a physical store.

PRODUCT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Easier parent-child items adjustments

Infinity now allows you to automate parent-child items adjustments. With just a few steps, you can assign a new parent item to existing child items with no need to manually perform stock on hand and cost adjustments.

Increase control over point of sale refunds

Using the Returns Extended module you can now define if a particular item is refundable or not, giving retailers the ability to prevent particular items from being refunded at the point of sale.

PRICING & PROMOTIONS

Increase personalised customer promotions

The Infinity Rules Based Pricing interface has been enhanced to allow retailers to create and maintain customer-specific promotions that could previously only be maintained via integration. This allows you to create more personalised promotions and enhance customers’ purchasing experience.

Allow staff to apply discretionary total sales discounts

Infinity Rules Based Pricing now allows you to manually apply total sale discounts to all items in a sale, including items that are already part of a promotion. This enhancement gives your staff more discretion when it comes to offering customer discounts; for example, when the customer signs up for your loyalty program.

POINT OF SALE

Allocate refund items to correct location

POS users can now assign items to a specific location using the Returns Extended module. This enables more accurate and less time-consuming stock adjustment. POS users are prompted to allocate the item to the correct location at the time the goods are returned and are not tempted to keep the item to the side for location details to be entered later.

Give customers summaries of epay transactions on a receipt

You can now print more than one epay transaction reference on a receipt. This means that if a customer buys more than one epay product it is easier to query the epay system and resolve any potential problems by easily identifying the items in the sale.

Increase accuracy of cashout transaction records

POS receipts have been enhanced to display the word "Cashout" instead of "Change" when an operator processes a single EFTPOS transaction with a cashout, thereby providing a more accurate record of the transaction. If the transaction was a split payment, the word "Change" will not be replaced even if the cashout was part of the transaction.

Provide staff with information when Wishlist provider unavailable

POS operators are now given more helpful error messages when the Wishlist provider is unreachable or the Wishlist service name is invalid. The length of time your system will wait to receive a response from the Wishlist provider can be configured, and the POS operator will be prompted when the timeout is met, allowing them to communicate more effectively with the customer when the Wishlist isn’t available.

MESSAGING

Easier management of bulk emails

Infinity Messaging can now send a configured number of emails per minute only. This enables retailers whose email service limits the number of emails per minute to automatically send a large volume of emails, such as monthly debtor statements, in managed chunks.

TECHNOLOGY

MESM RPB SQL Runner is now .NET 4.6.2 compatible and does not depend on installation of .NET 3.5 Framework on the target PC.
